As some are aware, I had a rather major hardware failure with my computer last week. That’s always frustrating (although far less so this time, since I invested in one of those online subscription services—“Carbonite”—that backs up all of your data files constantly. Didn’t lose any photos, videos, documents, or financial records this time! Whew!
Still, getting a new computer or a new hard drive always comes with attendant complications; for me those complications always involve the programs that I’ve added after the fact, and getting them re-set up.
The biggest problem for me is always the e-mail setup. I have a gazillion e-mail addresses. My husband says that’s just a symptom of a larger problem. Maybe. I have personal e-mail addresses, I have organizational e-mail addresses for several organizations that I’m a part of, I have work e-mail addresses, etc.
The usual problem is remembering how to configure each of those e-mail addresses so that they’ll feed into my e-mail handler (Microsoft Outlook). Every e-mail address has a little bit different settings that are required. Yesterday, I managed to get everything re-connected (not surprisingly, some of the addresses that I thought were low volume, and hadn’t been checking over the last few days, had hundreds of e-mails that had flowed in over the last week since my hardware crash). I’m ready to start taking all of those mass e-mails again (how in the world did 8 of my accounts end up on the Ron Paul/C4L mailing list?!?).
The good news is that I now have my 12 e-mail addresses set up for reception into Outlook again. Even better news is that Google, which I have a personal account through, and which is the storing house for my calendar data, has a new method of syncing the calendar on Google with my calendar in Outlook (I had previously been doing that through a 3rd party program). It seems to work mighty slick, so now my phone (a Google Android OS), my online Google, and my Outlook calendars are all synced up.
A painting project may take up some time, but I hope to begin more regular posting again this week.
