With reference to our discussions concerning my post Getting Used to Humiliation, I leave it to your knowledge of physics and other resources of your imagination to figure out the potential for terrorist damage in a high speed train.
To give you a sense of it:
I think Ron Paul is right, security issues should be left with the operators (airlines etc.), hopefully private ones, exposed to serious competition. By far the best solution. Involving the state is an invitation to never ending scare scenarios and ever widening arbitrary intrusion. Even if one assumes the benevolence of the state, in efficiency terms and regarding a wide range of other criteria, involving government is a costly and dangerous violation of the principle of subsidiarity.
