If being 65 or older was not a requirement for Medicare, This Conclusion might actually have some merit.

Otherwise, we might conclude that older people stay in the hospital longer and incur more costs

and, People who cannot afford insurance are in poorer health than those who can.


Sreve, did you read anything except the headline?

I initially had the same reaction, then I actually read the abstract.

"After controlling for age, gender, income, geographic region, operation, and 30 comorbid conditions, ....."

I encourage you to so some more research. There are medical community sites discussing this, and the peer reviews seem to indicate that the science is valid.

One theory I liked is that the Medicaid approval process apparently takes much longer than private.
