In Laura’s post discussing the riveting insights of the fading neocon rogue, Bill Kristol, we find him labeling Rand Paul as "seeming less 'out there'" than his dad.
For those unfamiliar with this Washington "insider" term, "out there" means some collection of thoughts or actions unfamiliar or unpalatable to the bureaucrats, politicians, and media lapdogs who have tarried too long "in there". For beltway insiders, certain abstract concepts (like harmony, abundance, or the common weal) are foreign to them; just as foreign, and possibly more threatening, than brown-skinned individuals from the Middle East. You see, their world revolves around the force that is government and, subsequently, the delicious power which ensues. They look at you, dear citizen, much in the same way a sculptor looks at a block of granite, chisel in hand, before he starts to shape it into his image… blow by blow.
To those of us in the real world, "out there" is a compliment; a testament to civilization and mutual cooperation. "Out there" is the wish we keep in our hearts for a better world. "In there" lies just the opposite and we should be glad that some who go “in there” on our behalf are not affected by the inimical atmosphere within. Let's hope Rand Paul carries the same immunizing truth gene as his father.
