Wednesday that one in 10 doses of the swine-flu vaccine purchased by
the U.S. will be donated to other nations before the U.S. demand for
the vaccine is filled.
Sebelius also told a Senate committee that vaccine production is well behind demand.
I would like to predict that the majority of the vaccines won't arrive until the threat has passed, and we will still be forced to pay for them.
After all, it's the Chicago way. In 2006, Governor Rod bought 260,000 doses of the flu vaccine from an overseas source despite being warned by the FDA that the drugs wouldn't be allowed into this country. Guess what happened when the drugs arrived? That's right - the FDA wouldn't allow them into the country. So Illinois donated them to Pakistan, where they were destroyed because they had expired. $2.6 million dollars - a mere pittance compared to what this might cost.
